Creating a PostScript file (PC)

All of the images below may be clicked to show a larger version in a new window.

If your application is not directly supported by Docuprint, or you were instructed to create a PostScript file, follow the directions below.

Installing a printer driver can vary slightly in different versions of Windows. Refer to your manual or help files for further instruction.

Part 1: Installing a PostScript Driver

This is a one time operation, just like installing a printer. If you have previously installed a PostScript driver, you may skip directly to Part 2: Saving a Postscript File.

The order of these steps may vary depending upon your operating system. Read through all the steps and alter the order as necessary.

  1. Have your Windows operating system CD available as it may be required.
  2. Click on the Start menu and select Printers and Faxes.
click on the image to enlarge
  3. In the Printers and Faxes window, select Add a printer.
click on the image to enlarge
  4. The Add Printer Wizard will launch. Select Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  5. Select Local printer attached to this computer. Click Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  6. Choose File: (Print to File) as your printer port. Click Next
click on the image to enlarge
  7. Under Manufacturer, select Canon. Under Printers, select Canon ColorPASS-Z5000. Click Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  8. Leave the Printer name as is. Select No to use as the default printer. Click Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  9. Select Do not share this printer. Click Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  10. Select No to print a test page. Click Next.
click on the image to enlarge
  11. Select finish. You may be asked to insert your Windows CD at this point.

The postscript printer is now added. Close the window and proceed to Part 2: Saving a Postscript File.

Part 2: Saving a Postscript File

These instructions use Microsoft Word as an example. Most applications will use a similar procedure with a slightly different interface.

  1. Open the document with the application in which it was created. Under the File menu, select Print.
click on the image to enlarge
  2. In the Print dialog box, select the Canon ColorPASS-Z5000 printer installed in the instructions above. Click on Properties.
click on the image to enlarge
  3. Click the Advanced button near the bottom.
click on the image to enlarge
  4. Select the appropriate paper size (the default size is letter). Select OK to both windows.
click on the image to enlarge
  5. Click OK in the main Print window. A Print to file window will open up. The Save in option is the folder into which your PostScript file will be created. Be sure you know where this folder is located as you will need to navigate to it when uploading the file or copying to disk. Type in a filename, or leave it the same as your document. Click OK.
click on the image to enlarge

If you have Acrobat Distiller, you may now create a PDF file from the postscript file:

A hardcopy sample is recommended and may be faxed to your customer service representative at 09 369 1280.
