Resolution of Photographic Images
If an image was pulled from the internet or was already scanned at a
low resolution (100 ppi or lower), it will not print clearly. Re-sampling
up to a higher resolution will render a blurry image once printed. It
is very important to scan or create each image at a proper resolution
for printing. Do not copy photos or logos from a website, these are generally
72 ppi and look fine on your monitor, but will be of a poor print quality.
Text should be created in a layout-based program such as InDesign or
QuarkXPress. Image editing programs such as Photoshop are not recommended
for text layouts.
Greyscale
A minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) is necessary for grayscale photos
that do not contain text.
Colour
Colour images should be saved at 300 ppi (pixels per inch) in CMYK mode.
If you cannot convert to CMYK, leave the image in RGB and inform us when
placing the order. Images containing text, although not recommended,
should be created at up to 600 ppi.
Black and White
Black and white images (not grayscale) should be saved at 600 to 800
ppi (pixels per inch).
